I agree that underhanded means of promoting websites and products just
don't work! They just only annoy surfers and browsers get wise to them
and block them out. The only people who benefit are those who write
the programmes to stop things like pop-ups.
It's not the quantity of traffic, but the quality that counts. Getting
hits isn't the aim of the game! Getting customers is! So the most
important thing is to get the right people to visit, so I fail to see
how pop ups/unders can have much effect if it's just a chance thing.
The best way to direct traffic to your site is through search engines.
If your site is well written, it will list in search engines with the
right search terms, therefore directing the right kind of customers to
your services and products. I have stopped getting annoyed with people
when they tell me how much SEO cost them and I've stopped telling
people not to use ppc etc because I've given up! They'll learn
