I've become pretty well convinced that the old method of creating custom
maps isn't going to work for version 2. I can't see a way to correctly
link a new GTileLayer() object to the added GMapType().
However, I've found a nasty hack that allows custom map types to be used
by a different procedure.
I don't have a tile server of my own (none of the web hosts that I use
provide a suitable scripting language) so, for my localhost testing,
I've been stealing tile service from someone else. If there's someone
out there with a tile server that they don't mind being used for this
purpose, I'll put up an example on my website.
If Google don't come up with a sensible way to have custom maps, then my
nasty hack would be an ugly fallback.
