MAPS api-s vs WEB api-s confusion

Argggh. Seems there is a DISTINCTION between Google's WEB Api-s and
Google's
MAP Api-s. I first signed up and received a 'web api' key. Everything
worked ok
for that. (But now, I learn that it was NOT a 'web api' key that I
wanted/needed!)

So, I went to the MAP api url and (tried to) signed up/ ask for a
MAP-api
key. The EXPECTED email-response never arrived. Finally, to 'debug' I
just hit the 'continue' button, and got a cryptic msg that '...Google's
records
indicate that I already HAVE/HAD a web-api key, so they sent
[supposedly]
sent the new MAP api key to that same email addr.'

Since no email arrived, I'm now stuck in 'license-key registration
hell'.

So, is there maybe some way I can UN-REGISTER my WEB-api-key
(which luckily I do NOT need...at least now right now, since I only
want to do MAP-api-s at the moment)?

Or, is there some OTHER way to rectify this mess?
