Invalid Pages - 404 Errors

Ive noticed that google has returned (and still has indexed in their
search results) a ton of pages that are no longer active on my site. I
rewrote my whole site with clean URLS and google has a ton of dynamic
URLS still indexed, so how can i get these removed from the crawl, the
search index, and my error page in sitemaps?
