I think it depends on what you want from linux,
what do you wanna use it for.

For application users, I think Fedora and Red Hat
will be perpect, as well as suse, Ubuntu.

If you wanna develop programs, debian and slackware
is for you.

For a www/ftp server debian and RH Enterprise editions
will be good.
