On Event API and Listenning to events

I am new to COM programming and is trying to write a simple plugin. For
now I am trying to just listenning to all events just like the
console_events example and then placing them into the sidebar just like
the diskmonitor example.
I have registered my class to listen to events inside of an ATL Object
class who is responsible for setting up the site, and
registration/subscription for events did not fail. I have also
implemented a simple callback class as well.
However, I am not getting any events notification at all.
Are there extra steps that I need to take?
