OK Webado, I think I'm getting clearer. Whether the site map is a
simple text file or an XML file it just needs to sit on my host without
being linked in any way to my website. Is that correct? If so, then I
can still have a sitemap in html for web surfers to understand. The
sitemap for Google never gets seen by anyone other than the robots.

Now, in regards to the simple Notepad file I'm with you up until you
said "You save it with encoding UTF-8." How do I do that?
