Help Help Newbie needing help with API

Tried to put the code that google supplied with the api into a template
web site that has an html editor function. When I save the code just
like it says I get an error on the page and when I go back and try to
edit all the code is gone except for the line that starts out with
"Div". Any idea on what I need to do short of hiring it done.
