Re: Verify, Verify, Verify....
If when you verify, your status changes to pending, and then when you
check again, it has changed to "not verified", that means that your
request was added to the verification queue and when we attempted to
verify it, the request was not successful.
There are a number of reasons why a request might be unsuccessful. Some
things you can check are:
-that your verification file exists in the correct location and is
named correctly (in your case, you've already check this)
-that your webserver is up and responding to requests when we attempt
the verification
-that your robots.txt file doesn't block our access to the file
-that your server doesn't return a status of 200 in the header of 404
pages
In your specific case, I see that you robot out 404_error.asp. I don't
know how your webserver is configured, but it's possible that when we
check to see how your server responds to requests for pages that don't
exist (you can read more about why we do that here:
http://sitemaps.blogspot.com/2005/09/verifying-your-site-trouble-with-404.html),
we are unable to see the response because we are restricted from
accessing the page your server serves back.
I don't know if this is actually the problem, but it's something you
might check. Once you have checked to see if any of the things listed
above might be causing a problem, try to verify again. And please post
back if you continue to have trouble. We are actively working on
verification issues and want to make sure we are aware of all problems
related to this.
