[Gmail-Users] Re: Is this Gmail's evil plan?
Some of us may want to store years of mail on the web. And have decent
message sorting and search functions. Like those who participate in
numerous discussion lists where discussions are already somewhat public
anyway.
Also, it's worth bearing in mind that e-mails do have some legal
value... with full original headers,as long as they haven't been
through your computer mailbox where they can be edited and tampered
with. Hence, for legal purposes, important messages are better kept
"safe" on a remote web server.
Any mail that goes through any server on the WWW is "unsafe". While
being processed, it leaves traces on servers besides that of your ISP
or webmail.
Downloading at home and deleting messages from wherever actually does
not delete from mail server immediately, does not delete all traces.
A lot about life has to do with trust... and one can trust without
being naive.
Paranoia is bad for both your health and soul, makes you age faster,
die younger. And, in death, you are safe at last... perhaps. Nobody
knows for sure ;)
