Re: Storing point and polyline data to file


As I have said to many people before, I like the SQL route, especially
SQL with GeoSpatial extensions (eg MySQL >= 4.1 )
This allows you to store point or line data in the same feild and do
operations on it that do not care if it is a point or a line.

EG If you use SQL to pull all locations from within a box, if it is a
point it will see if the point is within the box but if it is a line it
will see if any part of that line is within that box.

So basically it provides a nice layer of abstraction, freeing you from
wondering how the hell you are going to store points and lines
together.
