Interesting... I live in the UK, and sauron has always been pronounced sauron in the films! I notice the same with Narnia, in the US th ar seems to have been shortened (Nania?)

 

As for CS and JRR, you're right in that they were in Inklings, but JRR was actually terribly critical of CSs Narnia series, and this lead to them being terrible enemies for evermore. Oh don't you just love random trivia...
