A text-only browser is like a normal internet browser (Internet
Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc.) but it can only display the information
as normal text. It doesn't show graphics, nice layout, etc. Search
engines are similar to text only browsers because they are (mostly)
interested only in the text on a page.
You can check to see what Google sees by looking at the Google
text-only Cache for a page - do a normal Google search, most sites will
have a link "cached" next to it, click that - now it shows the page +/-
normally, but in the top part you can choose "cached text only". There
are also some tools out there that do something similar, but I've found
this method to be the easiest for a quick look.
